
Certificate III in Security Operations

This nationally recognised qualification is designed for individuals who already hold a Queensland Security Licence and wish to expand their skills, knowledge and leadership capabilities within security operations.
This course provides a pathway to advanced security roles, including team leadership and security risk management. Security officers at this level operate with limited supervision, exercise discretion and judgement in both predictable and unpredictable environments, and take responsibility for their own performance as well as limited responsibility for others within a team.
Please note: Enrolling in or completing this qualification does not qualify you for licensing.
As a Security Officer at this level, your responsibilities may include:
Leading and coordinating security teams in operational environments
Managing conflict and responding to security risk situations
Coordinating monitoring and control of individual and crowd behaviour
Gathering and presenting security information and documentation
Maintaining operational safety and workplace health and safety standards
Preparing and presenting evidence in court

Entry Requirements
Participants must:
Hold a current Queensland Security Licence
Have sufficient English language, literacy and communication skills
Have access to a computer with internet and Microsoft Word
Be physically capable of participating in defensive tactics training
If you do not currently hold a Queensland Security Licence, you must first complete the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and apply for your Security Providers Licence – Class 1 through the Office of Fair Trading (processing is typically 4–6 weeks).

This qualification does not grant a security licence.
To obtain a Security Providers Licence – Class 1, you must first complete CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and apply through the Office of Fair Trading.
CPP31318 serves as an advanced qualification for individuals who already hold, or are pursuing, a Class 1 licence.
Delivery Format
This course is delivered via blended learning (online and face-to-face).
Online Component
Approximately 15–20 hours per unit (14 units total)
Students progress at their own pace
Modules are sequentially unlocked after submission of each assessment
Includes written and case scenario-based assessments
Ongoing assessor support via student portal
Students have 12 months from enrolment to complete all requirements
Classroom Component
3-day in-person practical training session
Dates arranged after completion of key online milestones
The online component must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face practical training.
