Crowd Controller Refresher including Provide First Aid

This course is designed for individuals who currently hold a Queensland Crowd Controller or Bodyguard Security Licence and are required to complete mandatory revalidation training every three years, while also updating their Provide First Aid qualification.


The course ensures participants remain current with legislation, industry standards, conflict management techniques and defensive tactics, while developing the skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies in the workplace.


If you do not require Provide First Aid, you may enrol in the Crowd Control Refresher (2 units only) course.




As a Licensed Crowd Controller or Bodyguard, your responsibilities may include:


  • Managing conflict and security risks through negotiation

  • Controlling persons using approved empty hand techniques

  • Applying lawful and proportionate use of force

  • Responding to medical emergencies, including CPR and basic life support

  • Ensuring public safety at venues and events




Course Outcome


On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the following nationally recognised units:


  • CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks through negotiation

  • CPPSEC3121 Control persons using empty hand techniques

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation




Entry Requirements


Participants must:


  • Hold a current Queensland Security Licence with Crowd Control or Bodyguard function

  • Be physically fit and capable of performing defensive tactic techniques

  • Have sufficient English language, literacy and communication skills

  • Have basic computer skills and access to a reliable computer with internet and email access



As part of the HLTAID009 assessment requirements, participants must be able to perform at least 2 minutes (5 cycles) of CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.



Delivery Format

This course is delivered as blended training (online and face-to-face).



Pre-Course Work


  • Online/self-paced training (approximately 3–5 hours)

  • Includes reading modules and completing a final assessment

  • Must be completed prior to attending face-to-face training




Face-to-Face Training


  • 1 day classroom (approximately 9 hours)

  • Trainer-led revision, case scenarios and practical skill assessments

  • Closed book assessment



If you are unable to start at 8:00am, you may attend the Crowd Control component (starting at 12:00pm) and schedule First Aid on a separate date. Please note that your Statement of Attainment will not be issued until both components are completed.



Licence & Regulatory Requirements


All Queensland Security Licences are administered by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).


Participants are encouraged to review Queensland Security Licence requirements prior to enrolment, as additional eligibility criteria and government fees apply. Requirements generally include:


  • Being 18 years of age or older

  • Being a fit and proper person

  • Having no disqualifying offences under the Criminal Code within the last 10 years



Security Licensing Fees (OFT):


  • First year total: $606.00 (includes mandatory fingerprinting and police check)

  • Criminal history check (if not completed within the last 6 months): $47.10

  • Mandatory fingerprinting fee: $109.60



Multiple Function (Unrestricted) Licence Fees:


  • $449.90 for 1 year

  • $905.60 for 3 years
