CPPSS00063 – Firearms Skill Set
This specialised program is designed to meet the licensing requirements for a Queensland Security (Guard) Weapons Licence and prepare participants for armed security roles.
Delivered by experienced industry professionals with backgrounds in security, military and recreational shooting, the course develops the skills and knowledge required to safely manage high-risk situations using firearms and approved defensive equipment.
This qualification supports participants intending to work in roles such as:
Armed Guard
Armed Cash in Transit
Plain Clothes Cash-in-Transit
If you are already a licensed armed security officer requiring revalidation, you must complete the Annual Firearms Re-Certification course.
This course provides training in:
Determining appropriate responses to risk situations
Managing incidents using firearms, ballistic vests, batons and handcuffs
Weapon retention and disarming techniques
Safe weapon maintenance
Legal requirements relating to use of force
Course Outcome
On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment supporting application to Weapons Licensing Queensland for a Security (Guard) Firearms Licence (Categories C & E), and participation in Firearms Safety (Category H).

CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes
CPPSEC3117 Carry, operate and maintain shotguns for security purposes
CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of the work environment
CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms
CPPSEC3110 Control persons using baton
CPPSEC3111 Restrain persons using handcuffs
WSCQPS005 Demonstrate the safe use of Category H firearms
Entry Requirements
Participants must:
Hold or be applying for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence
Have completed CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations with the Cash In Transit function
Be 18 years of age or older
Have no criminal convictions within the previous 10 years (driving offences are not normally disqualifying)
Be an Australian citizen or hold an appropriate visa to work in the Queensland security industry
Have basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
Licence & Regulatory Requirements
To qualify for a Security Licence (Guard) in Queensland, applicants must provide, with their licence application, a Statement of Attainment (issued within the last 12 months) from a Registered Training Organisation showing completion of the required units of the CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations.
Applications for Security Guard Firearms Licences are processed by the Weapons Licensing Branch of the Queensland Police. Government licensing fees are not included in the course cost.
